Why do people love heavy metal? Why do others just love to hate it? These are the questions that anthropologist and heavy metal enthusiast Sam Dunn wanted to find the answers for when he started making this film.

Metal: A Headbanger's Journey is a unique tale of the world of heavy metal. The film takes, among other things, a look into the roots of heavy metal (if you've ever wondered what the story behind that hand sign is, this is your chance to learn) and into the multiple genres the loud culture has split into.

Dunn tours North America and Europe, meeting both grandfathers and the most influential grandchildren of heavy metal. In order to paint a justified picture of the phenomenon, he lets both fans and fanatic haters of metal to have their say. Metal has, after all, always been the pet hate of certain tight-assed groups. And it has to be mentioned that even for someone who considers headbanging as an enjoyable sort of upper-body excercise, the big idea behind Norwegian church-burners' actions remains somewhat obscure.

Join the good clean family fun with Tommy Iommi, Dee Snider, Slayer, Alice Cooper, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, Vince Neil, Bruce Dickinson, Ronnie James Dio, Cannibal Corpse, Lemmy, Geddy Lee, Lamb of God, Tom Morello, Arch Enemy, John Kay, Enslaved, Emperor, Korn, Mayhem, Girlschool, Gorgoth and many others!
