Playing with Ancestors

What happens when creativity runs wild in the middle of a forest?
Playing with Ancestors takes an international group of musicians, sound engineers and researchers to places where nature is more than just a backdrop – it becomes part of the music-making process. At ancient natural sites in Heinävesi, Finland, as well as in Latvia and Portugal, instruments, voices and the unique acoustics of each setting come together in ways no one could have planned.

Among the participants are Mike Keneally, known for his work with Frank Zappa, Italian-born bassoon virtuoso Marcello Giannandrea, and Latvian vocal ensemble Saučejas. They all face the same challenge: to dare to try something they’ve never done before.

Director Mikko Keinonen will be present after the screening to discuss the making of the documentary and answer questions from the audience.
