Anti Cimex: The Pest That Wouldn’t Die
There’s a certain irony in taking your name from a Swedish pest-control company – literally, “against bedbugs” – only to spread across the world like a pest yourself. Formed in 1981, Anti Cimex unleashed their ferocious d-beat and hardcore punk from the plains of Västergötland, naturally cutting their first raw recordings in a chicken coop.
Jawbreaker digs into a band that had little time for rules, polish or anyone’s idea of respectable Swedish music exports. Anti Cimex’s politically charged noise grew from the DIY underground into a cornerstone of Scandinavian hardcore, leaving its mark on punk scenes around the world.
Spanning four decades of music, friendship, booze, fights and retold myths, Jawbreaker traces a legacy that still packs a punch. Anti Cimex may have called it quits in 1993, but more than thirty years later, we still haven’t managed to get rid of them.
