Wars, dictatorships, the lust for power, and the fate of ordinary people. Tuomari Nurmio has been writing songs about these subjects for over 40 years – and some of those songs sound disturbingly relevant today. 13 kylmää laulua was recorded live at Tavastia in autumn 2024, bringing together Nurmio & Pienet Vihreät Miehet for a journey through some of Nurmio’s most timeless and haunting song.

Nurmio’s protest songs take no sides and spare no one. With razor-sharp lyrics, blaring brass and black humour, they confront the absurdities of power and the world we live in. Between songs, Nurmio reflects on how they came to be and why something written in the 1970s can still hit a nerve today.

13 kylmää laulua offers no answers to war or dictatorship. Instead, it gives voice to something that has endured through decades of change. Headlines come and go, and one crisis gives way to another, yet some songs simply refuse to grow old. Perhaps that is precisely why we need to hear them again.
