The Weird World of Blowfly is a film about an eccentric and in many ways sad character in the world of black music. The 69-year-old Clarence Reid is a faded R&B and soul star, who tours the States in superhero tights with his unskilled manager, telling story about how he invented hip hop. In the late 1960s and early 1970s Reid wrote and produced some of the most soulful and romantic songs of the era, many of which reached the charts performed by hit artists such as KC and the Sunshine Band. Nowadays the legend tours small clubs performing his extremely vulgar and ludicrous rap music under the stage name of Blowfly. It€s up to the viewer to decide whether to pity Reid or consider him a sidesplitting cult hero.

The film crew followed Blowfly for two years. The result is an unforgettable and touching portrayal of his life. Blowfly€s fan base includes both Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dead Kennedys. In the documentary his music is discussed by the likes of Ice-T and Chuck D (Public Enemy). How could you not adore the man, who €“ while wearing a cape €“ sings the classic Should I Stay or Should I Go with the lyrics €Should I Fuck This Big Fat Ho€?
