Nerdcore Rising

Nerdcore Rising (USA, 2008)
82 min. - English

Nerdcore Rising is a depiction of the newest phenomenom in the hip hop world, nerdcore. Instead of the normal macho blustering, in nerdcore MCs boast with their Star Wars knowledge. Negil Farsad's amusing and entertaining documentary tells about the godfather of nerd hop, MC Frontalot and his tour across the U.S. Frontalot - who, by the way, sounds a lot like Tommy Lidgren from Don Johnson Big Band - is the most famous exemplar of nerdcore, and his goal is to make the genre more acceptable in the small frames of hip hop.

The clever documentary pays attention to nerds forgot by music journalists. The Internet loving World of Warcraft fans with greasy hair and glasses are often neglected while the music industry pays attention to fluffy-haired, over-sexual alcoholists. Nerdcore Rising is an enchanting, charming and non-apologetically unfashionable film. And MC Frontalot is actually quite good, you know, for a nerd.
