Filth and Wisdom

Madonna:
Filth and Wisdom (UK, 2006)
81 min. - English, Russia, Hindi - Finnish subtitles
K-13

Madonna’s debut as a film director caused a record-breaking hustle at the Berlin film festival in February. The majority of critics remained indifferent, but the audience was entertained. The stuck-up XXX didn’t have guts to admit that the queen of pop beat out the most of the artsy-craftsy programme.

Filth and Wisdom is about a Ukrainian immigrant who finances his rock dreams by dressing in women’s clothing and spanking aging gentlemen. Eugen Hütz, the frontman of Gogol Bordello, stars in this coarse and tasty film that leans on the leading man’s charisma. Madonna tells her naughty, modern fairy tale in a manner true to her image: impudently and without XXX. Gogol Bordello is featured on the film’s soundtrack, and also in the film as the protagonist’s band. Filth and Wisdom captivates with its casual philosophies of life and swift dialogue. Sexual whimsy and good mood guaranteed.
