A film about art, family and the mysteries of creation

Argentinian tango used to be a fixed institution with little room for innovation. That is, until Astor Piazzolla. The bandoneon player was inspired by classical music and jazz rhythms, and revolutionized the concept of tango. Some adored him, some despised him, but Piazzolla pushed down countless barriers with his visionary creating frenzy.

Unlike most artist documentaries, Rosenfeld's film doesn't include interviews of Piazzolla's fellow musicians, past managers or family members. This immersive, cinematic portrait is built using previously unseen archives owned by his family. Piazzolla - The Years of The Shark is a retrospective of the life of the great visionary: his career and family life, the characteristics of macho culture, and artist-narcissist mindset.
