Huugo Kalervo €Kalle€ Palsa, a.k.a. Porno-Kalle, a.k.a. Marquis de Palsa is one of the most controversial characters in the history of Finnish visual art. This artist from Kittilä became known for his frenzied, grotesque and widely condemned works of art. For Palsa, the essence of art was made of the wretchedness of life, sexuality, and the presence of death. He was only 40 years old when he died of pneumonia, yet he painted over a thousand paintings, created with various techniques. Palsa informed that his favourite past time, besides jacking off and painting, was urinating from bridges, preferably into streaming water, downstream.

A word of warning: Kalervo Palsa ja kuriton käsi is not a documentary film but something way more experimental. Janne Reinikainen plays the role of young Kalervo Palsa, while his older self is performed by Antti Raivio. The late Markku Peltola stars in his final role as Palsa€s father. This is by no means an ordinary biopic, but an attempt to understand Palsa€s inner universe. For once in a Finnish film, the traditional structures have been demolished to give room to the stream of consciousness without explaining everything.

Kalervo Palsa ja kuriton käsi received mixed feedback at Sodankylä Midnight Sun Film Festival. This film is truly a nutcase, and at the same time it is one of the funniest Finnish films ever. If there ever was a film to watch on a big screen, accompanied by festival audience, this is it!
