Exposed (USA, 2013)
78 min. - English
K-18

The director Beth B is a veteran of the no wave-scene in New York, whose underground films and installations have brought her fame in both art and subculture scenes for decades. In her latest work Beth takes a deep plunge into the world of extreme burlesque. Exposed is a warm, visually stunning and taboo-breaking film about the beauty of the naked body.

Many people see burlesque as something jolly and pin-uppy kind of fun. Exposed, however, presents a different kind of burlesque. For the main characters of the film – eight unique and obstinate artists – burlesque represents a community outside the mainstream culture. These performers have turned their own bodies into tools of art, using them to break social and cultural taboos. And they do it in an outrageously hilarious fashion!

Exposed has material which may disturb some people, so viewer discretion is advised – but it is not meant to shock the audience. Love, humour and the acceptance of one’s own body are integral to the performances. Beth B treats her naked stars with affection and makes them shine.
