Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet

Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet (UK, 2012)
87 min. - English

In 1989 Jason Becker, a twentysomething dude from California, was living the guitar hero dream. As the second frontman for Cacophony (the other being Marty Friedman of later Megadeth fame), he had posed for the covers of the top guitar magazines and was about to succeed Steve Vai himself as the lead guitarist of David Lee Roth’s band. This American dream didn’t last long as just a week later he was diagnosed with ALS, a nerve-system destroying disease, and the doctors gave him 3-5 years to live. The story of the fastest guitarist ever was thought to be over.

Despite his deteriorating health, Jason Becker was able to record with David Lee Roth, but the dreams of a world tour were to be forgotten. The young man moved back into his parents’ house where they took care of their rapidly declining child. He lost his ability to walk or talk. He became the prisoner of his own body.

In spite of his hopeless situation, Jason Becker refused to give up. Not Dead Yet is about his struggle to survive and about his incredible willpower. Using a computer that reacts to the movements of his eyes, he is still writing and recording music and communicating with the world. Jason Becker is still meeting his fans, making music and, above all, alive. Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet is a moving story about dreams, family and the power of the mind. Oh yeah, and the fastest guitar solos in the world!
